Data collection of NHS clinical trial completed

23 March 2007
Today’s launch of the global research programme follows a four-year development phase of BVI, which has included an NHS approved trial over the last two-years at Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham.

Dr Asad Rahim, Consultant in the Obesity and Endocrinology Department at Heartlands explained: "We have been using the 3D scanner in a pilot study to assess it's potential as a motivational tool for Weight Management. We have completed the patient evaluation stage and are currently assessing the results. The scanner has certainly helped motivate some patients to manage their weight more effectively but there are also patients who were not scanned who lost weight. This however was a pilot study and based on the results when analysis has been completed, use of the 3D scanners within healthcare may deserve further investigation".

The results of the trial are currently being analysed and it is expected that the results will be published in the autumn of 2007.

Healthcare professionals across the world have been consulted in confidence about BVI during the past two-year development stage. These include Obesity Consultants, Dieticians, Anaesthetists, Dentists, Nurses, Radiologists, GPs, Public Sector Representatives and Patients. This website has been set up for the Body Benchmark Study and other specialists in body composition and health risk are invited to contribute any published data on body shape and health risk which will assist the collaborators in benchmarking and furthering the development of BVI.
